SLR International Corporation is seeking an Associate-level Engineer with 7-12 years of related work experience to join our growing Portland, Oregon operations. In this full-time role, the successful candidate will work alongside Senior Engineers and Principals within SLR's Air Quality and Noise group, providing multidisciplinary services to a diverse client base. Successful candidates will demonstrate experience in the areas of regulations pertaining to air and noise for industrial sites and the transportation sector, air quality services for compliance and permitting, and environmental impact assessments, backed by a track record of establishing lasting, successful client relationships.

Required Technical Skills and Experience

  • B.S. in Chemical, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering
  • Minimum of 7-12 years of previous engineering or air quality and noise support work experience
  • Experience with PSD, Title V, and other permitting processes
  • Understanding of federal air quality standards, including NSPS and NESHAP
  • Experience reviewing stack test reports
  • Greenhouse Gas reporting experience
  • Experience in noise modeling and noise calculations
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills
  • Experience in technical writing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare proposals in plain language addressing client requirements
  • Ability to complete work under tight deadlines when required
  • Demonstrated skills managing significant air compliance projects with multiple staff working as part of a team
  • Possess valid driver's license
  • Ability to travel by airplane and car, including overnight travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Engineer or FE planning on registration
  • Experience with Oregon, Washington, and Alaska air permitting regulations and processes
  • Expert in oil and gas operations and common industrial processes
  • MOVES experience
  • NEPA and/or SEPA experience
  • Existing client relationships resulting from excellence in performance

Physical Demands

Position is office-based, but field work and travel will be required as part of this role. With or without reasonable accommodation, employees will be required to perform the following tasks:

  • Travel by airplane and car, including overnight travel
  • Walk or climb stairs
  • Handle large items
  • Lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds


  • Project management and coordination of air and noise projects in the West Linn, Oregon, office with existing and new clients
  • Performing and managing tasks to support larger project teams
  • Management and mentoring of junior staff
  • Assistance with proposals and business development
