SLR International Corporation is seeking a staff-level Scientist, Geologist, Hydrogeologist, or Engineer to join our Anchorage, Alaska operations. Preferable candidates will have a strong, relevant academic or employment background and a passion for environmental consulting work. The candidate selected for this role will work within our Alaska Land and Water Group, assisting with a variety of functions related to contaminated site investigation and remediation. Positions in the Anchorage office also provide great opportunities for growth and gaining broad experience in site investigation and cleanup, environmental permitting and compliance, and air quality. As field work is a key component of this role, preference will be given to local candidates and those who demonstrate familiarity with local/regional Alaskan terrain.

Required Technical Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Geology, Hydrogeology, Engineering or related scientific field
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills (writing samples will be required, see supplemental questions below)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to solve basic calculations and unit conversions
  • Experience presenting analytical results in tabular and graphical forms
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)
  • Willing to commit to field assignments of up to two weeks away from Anchorage

Preferred Technical Skills and Experience

  • Groundwater, surface water, and soil sampling experience
  • Groundwater and contaminant transport modeling software experience (MODFLOW, MT3D, etc.)
  • Skill/experience conducting hazardous materials surveys and sampling
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification
  • Understanding of industrial operations and equipment, large and small
  • Knowledge of Alaska environmental regulations
  • Alaska driver's license

  • Work with clients from a variety of industries
  • Collect groundwater, surface water, and soil samples
  • Review State, Federal, and Local regulations for applicability to site cleanup
  • Assist other SLR teams with work in a variety of disciplines including air monitoring, waste management, permitting, and compliance
  • Travel to clients' facilities for inspections and document review
  • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments

Physical Demands

Field work and travel are expected to be a part of this position. With or without reasonable accommodation, employees are expected to perform the following activities:

  • Ability to perform filed assignments lasting up to two weeks in duration
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of climate conditions (including the Arctic)
  • Ability to travel by airplane, helicopter, and car, including overnight travel

  • Frequently walk or climb stairs
  • Lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
